THE CHRISTMAS TRAIN

We had planned to get Liam another train for a while. It turned out great that his favorite movie of the last month has been "The Polar Express."

He calls this The Christmas Train.

CHRISTMAS MORNING

Two things I find entertaining from Christmas.

  • Every gift Liam opens is something that then needs to be assembled or needs some space to use. After he's done removing wrapping paper on each gift he says, "let's open it up and play" to which we respond, "not now, we can play later." I'm sure everyone goes through the same thing. He really showed amazing patience for someone who never got to play with any of the hundreds of toys he opened. He just kept ripping paper, shrugging his shoulders about the fact that he was allowed to use the gift yet and then ripped more paper.
  • After everything was opened he went right back to playing with the same toys he always plays with. At the Regan house that was the two rubber WWF wrestler bathtub toys and at the Merna house it was the Duplo train set. "Thanks for letting me remove paper from these nice boxes, now back to my toys."

Liam on Christmas morning.

SANTA WARM UP

Liam got to see Santa three times this Christmas pre-season. The first meeting went poorly enough that we couldn't even get him close enough for a photo. The next two went better at Penfield High School and Park Place Diner in Victor.

FIRST OFFICIAL POOP IN THE POTTY

PRINCESS

I knew, having Liam spend each day with two little girls, that eventually they would convince him that he should be a princess.

STUCK

Liam is able to get down from the chair on his own, sometimes.

WHERE POLAR BEARS LIVE

Liam's vocabulary has really gone to the next level in the last two months. I love it when he uses phrases that neither Jamie or I ever use. One of his favorites is "of course" after he sees something obvious. Our conversation yesterday morning as we talked about the jungle....

Liam: * sees a patch of trees "Look, the jungle."
Me: "Do you know that monkeys live in the jungle?"
Liam: "Yea."
Me: "Where does a jaguar live?"
Liam: "The jungle."
Me: "Where does a big snake live?"
Liam: "The jungle."
Me: "Where does a polar bear live?"
Liam: "The jungle."
Me: "Noooo, a polar bear lives in the snow!"
Liam: "hahahahahaha.... of course."

YOU LOOKING AT ME

We had some family photos taken a few weeks back. Of course family photos means "Liam Photos with Colin and Jamie in the background."

I like this one. It was the exact moment when Liam realized that for his entire life everyone has been watching him. He didn't know what to say.

PUZZLE GUY

Liam is almost doing his big puzzles on his own. Sometimes he still needs a little pointer but that doesn't lessen his satisfaction with the completed project.

(If anyone knows where the two missing pieces of the Race Car puzzle are please let us know, it's really bothering him.)

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Like we've said before, if you want to watch Liam eat for 13 minutes you are either a grandparent or crazy... both of those are OK with us!

BIG BOY BED

Liam is sleeping in his 'big boy bed' for the first time tonight.

BOOGIES

Liam was scratching his nose this morning.

Jamie: "Liam, you have to sneeze?"

Liam: "No... got BOOGIES!"

A TRIP HOME

Last weekend Liam went home to visit for an extended weekend.

We went to the Seaway Festival parade with grandpa.

And then to the park to play.

We went camping and slept in a tent for the first time.

And swimming at the beach. You have to look closely but, yes, that is Liam's head just to my left. He walked right out until the water was up to his chin.

The ice cream truck stopped at the camp site... Sponge Bob style ice cream. What a country.

The next day Liam helped GG mow the lawn.

And then went for a boat trip with cousin Carter, who is training for the Olympics.

We took another ride on the 'slow' boat.

COOLING OFF

As you all know we are in the middle of a huge heat wave. Our AC doesn't work too well in the house and a few days ago Liam was really sweating it out. Jamie could tell how uncomfortable he was and was looking for a way to cool him off. I'm a moment of panic she said, "Just shave his head!" I jumped on that opportunity as quick as I could and about 15 minutes later we had this result.

DANGLER

Last week Liam had a chance to work on his dangling. He also completed one of the rarest plays in baseball, a bunt home run.

PEE PEE IN THE POTTY

Liam is working on his skills peeing in the big potty. He decided to completely skip his training potty because he wanted to pee pee like Mommy on the big one.

Now this is great but don't think we're 100% spoiled. He does still poo poo in his pants. Doesn't like to talk about that one until it's too late.

STAIRMASTER

Liam is well behaved but he has had a instances where his will has simply been stronger than ours.

A example of his good behavior would be the garbage and the cupboards in the kitchen. A few times early on after he started walking he had tried to take something out of the garbage or take a glass plate out of a cupboard. We sternly told him "NO" and he has really never had a problem following that rule.

An example of the middle road would be hitting. He's had more than one instance of hitting him Momma and although he has relapsed it's obvious he knows when he has done wrong and he is quick to apologize.

An example of something we have just had to live with are the stairs. When we tell him not to go on the stairs he laughs at us because he knows it's a joke. We can't stop him and HE is the one that tells us "NO!" The kid has taken down any gate we've tried to put up and he now refuses to take rides down the stairs. Liam even gets offended if you try to offer him your hand. About all we can do is keep a close a eye and let him become a big boy on his own.

*Notice what he says at the start of the video. It's because I offered him my hand out of view from the video.
**Obviously this video was taken before the haircut.

CHOP SHOP

I'm sure you'll find it hard to accept that I didn't want my boy to get his hair cut. I've been sporting a 1/2 inch or less for the last 10 years but I actually liked Liam's shaggy look. Jamie called an intervention a few days ago and took him for a trim. She admits, "my worst day ever with Liam", as expected, he was not appreciative of the attention to his head.

Despite that, the cut was finished and I gotta say, hair washing is much easier now.

KATHERINE IS 2

Liam went to Katherine's house for her birthday and they ran 47 laps to celebrate. This is one of those 10 minutes videos I post for the grandparents so no hard feeling if you don't make it all the way through.

THE BEACH

I dropped off Jamie and Liam at the airport last night.

Reports from the flight were that Liam was a good boy on the trip.

12 hours later he had his toes in the sand.

WORDS PER MINUTE

They are both only at about 45 words per minute... so obviously we have some work to do.

TOAST

Liam loves toast at breakfast. I'm glad to find the foods that he loves but there is a problem with toast. Instead of eating it he spends most of his time sucking/chewing it. It seems that adding toast to the breakfast menu adds another 20 minutes to breakfast while Liam absorbs the taste out of it before finally downing it.

This morning I used a large slice of what bread for him and even after cutting it in half he still had two fairly large sections. He took a good a good look at them and said, "Eh!! FORK!" I got him a fork after his "please" and "thank you." He jabbed the fork into the top slice and tried to fit it into his mouth with no luck. With toast particles all over his face he said, "EH! CUT! CUT!" So I got a knife out and started chopping the toast up. As I walked away I heard "tank you" and he began sucking the butter out of the toast squares.

Breakfast seems to be his best meal of the day. We're not sure how much he eats for lunch but dinner can be hit or miss. In general he finishes anything on his plate at breakfast.

When we are at home his favorites are:
Toast
Cheerios "ohs"
Apple Jacks "jacks"
Grapes
Bananas

When we go out for breakfast the favorites are:
Toast
Sausage Links
Fried Eggs

DYLAN'S BIRTHDAY

I went to cousin Dylan's birthday party.
He got to eat a big cake.

I got locked in a cage cause everyone says I'm a wild animal.

But Aunt Mairin rescued me.

And then we had a family hug.
